The TA could de operating in either direct, or reduction. If the TA clutch is properly adjusted so the throwout bearing has the correct clearance with the lever forward, and when pulled back, releases the disk, it should be operating. If it will roll forward on a level smooth surface in gear with the TA back, and your foot off the clutch, the TA is in low. if it will still roll forward with the TA lever forward, the TA clutch is not locking the TA into a direct drive condition. If it will not roll freely with it back, and the TA clutch is released, the TA gears may be jammed,(or welded together by a former owner). Jim
