I just bought an IH 354 (gas) a few weeks ago. I am new to tractors but my father in law is helping me fix it up, he's an auto mechanic and has worked on tractors since he was a teenager. The 354 is in decent shape but obviously a 40 year old tractor will require work here and there.
The tractor was used for grading PA State Highways, came with a box blade on it and turf tires in the front. The first thing we did was flip the rear wheels and bring in the front axle to line up the front with the rear. (I plan on using this tractor for mowing w/ a 5' Land Pride RCR1860 as well as having a snow blade for winter).
Anyhow, the camber before moving the front in seemed fine, but once moving the front axle in the driver side wheel camber is noticeably different than the passenger, I would say probably twice the angle of the passenger. When I take my hand off the wheel it pulls to the left. I know the toe angle is slightly off from when we adjusted the axle, if that makes a difference or not. It was worse before we repacked the wheel bearings. We talked to an old timer and he said he thinks it's the spindles or the spindle bearings, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Also another issue I have is the throttle lever stays in position when it's set to a slow/medium speed, but if you crank the throttle down to high it seems to vibrate itself loose back to the medium range. What do I have to do to make the throttle lever stick in the high position?
