Hi, I'm really new to tractors, I've recently taken over the family farm. In short, my Farmall 656 gas tractor has an engine knock. My neighbor is an older farmer who knows quite a bit, and speculates it may be a rod bearing but of course we can't know for sure.
I got some pretty scary quotes from the local tractor repair place, and I'm not having a lot of luck finding someone to come take a look. I understand I may be able to drop the oil pan and take a look without splitting the tractor, but I have no experience doing this.
Is this something I should research looking at myself or is it hopeless? Thanks for any advice!
