Hal, I also went on line and the diesel fuel tank is different, 375099R91. Very confusing as in listing for both gas and diesel 340 utility there are two listings for tanks. One for diesel and one for gas is how I read it.
So I found probably a used diesel tank 375099R91 listed at Wenger's of Myerstown, Pa. However I can't tell blueridge if it will work. The saddle for mounting the tank is same part number, 369223R91 but of course there is a difference in the diesel tank over gas since they carry different part number. Visual inspection of the parts illustration the difference I see is shut off valve with no sediment bowl on diesel and sediment bowl in illustration on gas model. So probably a different thread size in bottom of tank creating a different part number on tank ? Maybe it could be adapted but I wouldn't want to have a tank shipped in from somewhere and then find it could not be made to work. The other flaw is I can't find a paper or computer parts list on the T-340 to make sure it uses the same tank as wheel tractor. I would guess it the same but that would not make me sure enough to order and have a tank shipped only to find that, Oh, there is a difference ! I did my research at the Dealership where I retired from and work some part time at.
blueridge, will continue to try to find something for you.

As a matter of fact, some of the technology experimented with over 40 years ago makes today's tractor technology seem absolutely stale by comparison. Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
