It sounds like your solenoid.Remove it from the starter and take the cap off it(the black piece)you will see that the large contact washer will have a burned spot in it as will the end of the one lug that makes contact with the washer.turn the washer over clean up real good and turn the lug to a new contact spot and reassemble.I have done this many times.Also put a volt meter on the starter lug when you hit the button to make sure you have full voltage if not your cables are junk.
