If its the transmission input shaft that goes up into the T/A unit that is to far to rear? It has the belt gear box drive gear and also drives the constant mesh gear? Also the transmission main shaft pilot bearing goes inside it? If that's it the only way to get rearward I can think of is a bad bearing, retaining ring failed, retaining bolts for the t/a unit housing broke or backed out, or something is broken. If rear shaft going into t/a bearing is okay a retaining ring keeps shaft from sliding in the bearing and the bearing has a retaining ring on the outer race. Shaft can't move to far to rear before main shaft pilot bearing bottoms or belt drive gear contacts the constant mesh gear. Or maybe I still misunderstand.
