yes a B front can be put on the A we do this sometimes for a belly mower the arrows should be to the front no big deal apparently the engine ran might as well tear it down and do it right the flywheel will have to be changed for a ring gear although the one you have can be machined for one buying a 50 yr old never know what has been changed tore one down to overhaul and found the oil rings were installed one on top of the other with the expander on the bottom even had the ring ends lined up together came from FLORIDA also had no flywheel grouve for ring gear but the tourqe tube was for a starter so you never know tear down and do it right be sure and have the timing marks on the mag gear and camshaft and crank in right regestration the MELROSE sign is where the rad were built buy and sell these all the time have 15 now be glad to help any time
