For the amount of hay you are talking about, it is not really feasible to get all the equipment and a tractor to do it yourself. You would need a tractor (It takes a large one to pull a round baler), a mower, a tedder, a rake and a round baler. The cheapest I've seen round balers go at auctions around here is $2000 and those are almost junkers. You'll have to pay at least $5000 to get one in decent shape. After that, you are looking at $10000 or more, to get a decent older tractor and the rest of the equipment. I think it better for your situation to find someone to do you hay as a custom job, and find a tractor (40-50 HP) that will handle the round bales, so that you can move them. As time goes on, you can get mower, etc to do the mowing and raking.
