I had a similar problem. It was vapor locking when the gas temp got around 135 degrees. I was using a see throught in line paper filter. You could see the air bubble form in filter, fuel stopped and shortly after the engine died. I waited for the fuel in tank to cool and the gas would flow in the filter again until it got to temp.
I replaced rusty tank, removed the paper inline filter and problem solved. Gas seems to go throught screen better without vapor locking.
