Hi Diana,
Here is my thoughts. Next year work out a deal with the farmer you mentioned. Let him farm half of your acres in return for working the other half for you. You would probably still have to buy the grass seed and whatever else is needed. Although I know you dont want to have him do most of the haying for you. Over the next year or 2 carefully search for a tractor that will suit your needs and put together a line of equipment. I would try to work with this farmer for a couple of years and then ease into doing it all yourself. Let your neighbor farmer know of your intentions and see what he would be willing to do.
