If it has the early style (cable) connection from the Fast-Hitch forward to the control valve, they were a problem. Many were converted to a solid linkage, which helped a lot. Look in the Fast-Hitch section of the parts catalog to see the difference.
Check the rear hubs for looseness on the axle (should be a press fit).
Steering was not a weak point but beware that many steering parts do NOT interchange with the C through 230 models. If you do need steering parts, they may be hard to find.
Other than the above areas to check, I think they were a pretty good tractor. Unlike the larger tractors of the time, they do not have TA or IPTO.
