My personal preference is to leave it 6 volts. So long as you have heavy (#1 or #0 minimum) battery cables with good (crimped and soldered) terminals, a good battery and a healthy starter, your A will start fine on 6 volts.
Only if a tractor is a "worker" (accumulates many hours annually, frequently requires the lights, etc) do I suggest a 12 volt alternator conversion.
I don't recommend trying to use the existing generator to supply 12 volts. It can work, but not very well.
