seen one. What would be the purpose?...
Gives you 4 speeds between 4th gear and 5th gear. 4th gear on a stock h is like 5.1 mph at wide open throttle. Road gear is 16.5 mph at WOT. Big gap as you can see between stock gears. Some jobs like rotary hoeing need 6.5 to 7.5 mph to work properly. Contrarily light jobs like raking hay you can gear up and throttle down to do the job and save a little fuel if you have the 9 speed with a ground powered rake. Or move heavy wagons at less than road gear but still faster than 5.1 mph. Road gear which does not have much torque.
Really all the M&W overdrive is a little 2-speed gearbox that fits ahead of the tranny input shaft with direct drive maintained and a secondary speed that overdrives the tranny input shaft, the PTO input shaft, and the belley pump hydraulics all at the same time (so not good in that respect). 5th gear is locked out with the overdrive engaged or otherwise it would provide 10 speeds.
Speed order is Direct 1, Direct 2, Direct 3, Direct 4, Overdrive 1, Overdrive 2, Overdrive 3, Overdrive 4, Direct 5. (Overdrive 5 is locked out as an option to prevent choosing).
That all said, any job where you need to use the PTO at 540 rpm then the 9 speed will usually not help as it overspeeds the PTO and belly pump hydraulics so I personally would only run at about half throttle or so in the high range of the overdrive to avoid damaging those components. There was a belly pump disconnect offered but most do not have this installed. Limit the full throttle applications to direct drive range. and all will be fine.

Out of the yard, over the cows and bale piles, through the dozer piles, poplars, and brush, out onto the ditch grade road, past the noisy 6.2 diesel engine pulling my well traveled Suburban along. Well it sure didn't take me long to figure out what it was because I alrea
