Assuming the battery doesn't discharge when it is parked, and you still have a 3 brush generator (important point) I would just ground the generator F terminal and leave it that way. Or you could hook it back to the light switch again.
Hooking to the light switch would give you high/low provided the wiring and switch are all good. grounding it would permanently give you high charge. Either way, the voltage regulator would be simply acting as a cutout.
