You want the 340 tractor fixed, correct? Don't know if you are asking if a 300 transmission housing will bolt to a 340 center housing, or if a 300 center housing will bolt to a 340 engine? To much unknown, engine driven hydraulics on the 340 or transmission driven? 300 rear housing won't be hydraulic oil pickup compatible. If going to have the center housing out of the 340 you may as well fix it. Not that much trouble to put the 300, 330, 350, 460 or 504 gears in if you want to use something on hand. They are splined and not that hard to get off the shafts after shaft removal. Just use the first gear on the top and bottom shaft that match and the reverse idler shaft that matches the first gear. If I remember correct 2nd speed that drives one end of the reverse idler is the same on all those tractors. Another thing to consider is the farmall 340 has more gear reduction through the ring and pinion gears than a farmall 300, 330, 350 or 460. Plus the 300 transmission may have a faster first gear also than the 340 has now.

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”.
