No, I mean after you put it back on the tractor. Any time the generator and regulator have been separated they need polarizing. If you know what it is you probably did it already.
If it is the regulator you should just prepare yourself for a headache. They are all junk now. If the reg is bad I would take the generator back to the shop and have THEM match it to a regulator. They can sort out the bad ones and get it working.
