Not a flame, just best info I have. The generator "polarization" is nor electrical, it is magnetic. The iron pole shoes inside the field windings are designed with the idea of retaining magnetism. This magnetism is "charged" into the iron by passing battery current through the field coils with a bypass. (for an "A" circuit Generator this is done most certainly by grounding the F terminal, and jumping from the Bat terminal to the Arm (or Gen terminal). This puts current through the field windings, magnetizing them. They will stay magnetized for more than a year. If the testing person hooked the system up using the wrong ground polarity, then it would be mandatory to repolarize the gen. If it was done correctly, positive ground for a positive ground tractor, and negative ground for a negative ground tractor it will not need polarization. Jim

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
