IH 350U Torque Amplifier

Thanks to all the guys that offered information
on this model!. One of the first questions I should have asked when I enquired about TAs was what do they actually do and how do you operate
them. My dad who drove M's in N.Miami when there was more farms than Cubans, said that the heavy equiptment he operated in the sixties had on lever that you set to high or low for transmission range. Is this the same type system? The second
question I have is, how would novice go about checking this system before a purchase?
