The TA has two ranges, low and high. When in high range (lever forward) you get the regular fwd and reverse gear speeds. When the TA lever is pulled back(low side) the power goes through a set of planetary gears between the clutch and transmission that reduce the speed of whatever gear you are in by 1/3. This is a shift on the go feature. They will last alrite as long as they are not abused and used constanly when not necessary. A good way to check is to put the tractor into 4th or 5th gear and start out in low side, if it goes fine without slipping, your TA is good. DO NOT shift from high side to low side TA while going down a hill or when in road gear, this will cause all kinds of problems.
