Bill, If your charging system is original, I believe that low charge, high charge, dim, bright is right. If you use the low/high charge feature, that is: high charge when it hasn't run for a while and short runs and: low charge when you use it a lot and on long runs, it will keep your battery in good condition. The trick to using 6 volt systems without a voltage regulator is to keep the battery charged without cooking it dry. Using the low/high switch should should help you do it.
