Another engineer's input: Belt pulley no-load rpm for an H is 1121, so 1000 rpm under load is reasonable. A 6-inch flat belt 5/16 thick should handle up to 28 hp at 3200 fpm (your belt speed), that is all your H would want. Of course the pulleys must be crowned and alignment for a short belt is very critical. Premium quality, multiple A-section v-belts at 3200 fpm on a 6-inch small sheave should give good service at 3.9 hp per belt. Premium B-section belts in the same service should handle 6.5 hp each. Larger v-belts aren't suitable for 6-inch sheaves. If an H will run the pump at the pto then it has enough hp at the belt pulley as well. For water, small pump hp can be estimated as HP=(GPM*(PSI-15))/685
