If the impulse has tripped, the rotor will be pointing somewhere other than #1. I doubt if there is anything wrong in the timing dept. since it was running. Try seeing if there is a good fuel flow to the carb. The strainer above the sediment bowl may be plugged, or the vent in the gas cap may be plugged. Removing the cap on one of my tractors cured it's problems. A previous owner had replaced the cap with an unvented one. No gas = no run. :o)
