Most, if not all Cubs have this same problem at one time or another. Field repairs are very common. I have restored several Cubs, and always plan on straightening the rods. Sometimes it is necessary to replace the ball ends or even make new rods. The heat won't hurt them. The plate is another matter...it is hardened carbon steel, and will suffer if a weld is attempted. If it hasn't separated where it is broken, maybe you can saw out a re-inforcing plate to bolt on along with the original. Another possibility would be to eliminate the need for the rods entirely. :-)
