It probably had the head rebuilt at some time in the past and someone poor boyed it back together without paying attention to valve protrusion.I did the same on my 4010 and am going to fix in a week or two.I used it now for near 10 years that way but the head gasket is now leaking. also I never liked deere's method of either injection. it knocks far less with a shot at the aircleaner.Paul
