I have a Deere 4x14 #66 plow that I'd like to use behind my 80. The plow is a trip plow, but someone before me welded a couple brackets on it, it seems obvious to use a hydraulic cylinder for lift...and frankly I'd like to do that instead of the trip lift (I've plowed a slippery muddy field with a D and trip lift!)
A picture of the plow and the two brackets circled.
It seems that the cylinder should work there OK to lift the plow?
BUT I think the trip lift will not allow the plow to drop, nor raise. I'd have to trip it every time....which basically makes the cylinder pointless. Is there a good way to take the trip out of the equation? I THINK if I remove the "clutch lift bar" (part #47 in this diagram)
that the plow will be floating free, and could be lifted and held up by the hydraulic cylinder. I should have taken a pic of the plow itself, but forgot to.
And finally....I was trying out the use of a cylinder today on the plow, but it wouldn't drop... I tripped it, she fell, but then my cylinder wouldn't raise it back up. I'm not completely sure if the cylinder is too small (likely) or if the trip lift was stopping it. The lift does seem to be jammed? I jacked up the plow, and the land wheel wouldn't rotate forward to trip back up. Reversing the wheel only made a ratcheting sound. I got the wheel off and the gearbox, but I'm unsure what to look for inside, I can't see anything obviously wrong. Any suggestions? I'd like to get the clutch working, or at least free if I have to.

I am 20 and my father and I are the proud owner of a 1954 Allis Chalmers WD-45. When I was 18, I dated a girl in the next county over. Her family are tobacco farmers. It was a cold Thanksgiving evening, and we were going up to her Grandparents house. As we passed one of their barns, I noticed something orange in the corner of my eye in this old shed. It was pretty dark and I asked what it was
