Both of the other guys are right. The beginning of the model/production year for JD Waterloo built tractors is given as Nov 1st through Oct 31st up through the 38 model year. The 39 model year started July 1st 38, leaving 38 a short year. From 39 through 47 the model year was July 1st through June 30th. The 48 model year was long, from July 1st through Oct 31st. From that point on it was back to the Nov-Oct routine. There were plenty of exceptions to these dates. Tractors built a few days after or before a supposed serial number/model year change. I haven't seen Mr Thinkers list, but I would guess it is the same as T-C's, and others that are supposed to follow the model/production year according to Deere. The list here on YT is also supposed to follow model year, but they have a different set of numbers on some years. I have done a little number crunching on both of these lists for styled A's, numbers built from the production log versus beginning serial number/number of tags issued in a given year. It looks like the T-C (and maybe mr thinker) list is the most accurate up through 47 and then YT list seems to come closest. Niether list appears to be correct on most of the styled years, and T-C's list starts to go wildly wrong in 48. Other models share the same scenario.

If you agreed with the subtitle, you are rather mistaken. Quite, actually. As a matter of fact, some of the technology experimented with over 40 years ago makes today's tractor technology seem absolutely stale by comparison. Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
