Two 6-volt batteries could mean a 6-volt or a 12-volt system, depending on how they are wired. Wired in parallel, it's 6-volts; wired in series, it's 12-volt. In the Army some of our eqipment had 4 12-volt batteries wired in parallel series for cranking power on a 24-volt system.
