Here are pictures of the old farm house that sat just west of where my dad grew up. The house was located in Richardson County, just north of Dawson, Nebraska. This was on land that my grandfather purchased and farmed. The house was built by the Ogle family in the 1880's. The story goes that there were brothers competing to build the biggest house.
The house does not exist anymore, as it sat abandoned for 20 plus years before it started to fall in. The last time the house was lived in was 1959, and it was finally pushed in in 1980.
My grandparents could have lived in this house, but my grandmother didn't want to do all the cleaning that goes with a huge house. So, thats why it sat, and from there rotted away. The fire place that was in the house was taken out and sold to a restaurant in Auburn, Nebraska, called the Fireside Inn.
Its sad that this great house is gone. I was never able to see it, as it was gone before my time. But, I think it would be cool to try and build this house again from these pictures. That would be quite an undertaking though.
Enjoy the pictures! From Denton, Nebraska. Andrew Kean
