At the time I was driving a rural paper route. This was not an unfamiliar stretch of highway to me. This stretch of highway was all wooded with no side roads or driveways on either side. In fact the road dropped off 15 to 20 feet on each side. There was no reason to think anyone might be stopped on the road. It was a two lane blacktop and I believe at the time, 1973 the speed limit was 65 there. I was driving 60 to 65. Had I been driving 40 there I would creating a road hazzard myself.
I do not farm but I live in the country and do some dirt work for someone that lives near me. I could drive there on my tractor, but it would involve me driving on the highway about 200 yards. I won"t do it. I load the tractor on a trailer and transport it there every time.
