My late first wife was on disability from Social Security, and the first time she applied, she was told she didn't have sufficient contributions paid into SS to qualify, and was denied. WHY would she be denied based upon her earnings, if there is no earnings/contribution minimum?
She appealed, and asked SS to provide a record of her SS contributions. SS provided the record, agreed that she DID have sufficient contributions to SS, but denied the second attempt because they contended that my wife wasn't truly disabled.
She appealed again, and got statements about her rheumatoid arthritis from every living doctor that she'd ever seen. FINALLY, SS relented and granted her disability. And she lived just over 2 years after that to collect it.
AGAIN I would ask: if there was no requirement of a certain level of contributions to SS required to qualify for disability payments, then WHY did SS at first deny the claim on the basis of insufficient SS contributions [even though they knew it was a lie] ??
