Do as George suggested on paying cash for a car or truck. My last car payment was in 1962. I bought used cars and trucks with low mileage til 2001. I still have an old Mercury Cougar we bought from my wife's sister in 1985 with 15k miles. It still only has 56k on it now. I paid off the mortgage in 10 years since I worked a lot of overtime. I had a daughter in college getting her BS and MS in nursing. She also got an MPH in Public Health from Johns Hopkins. She took out a low interest loan from Hopkins and paid it off in 10 years. We had to help her since she couldn't work while attending Hopkins. These interest rates are for the birds for people like you trying to build up your IRA's. Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
