My neighbour called me over yesterday to look at his 10" machimo (sp) rotivator. He is changing the seals on the tine shaft in the gearbox (drive side of rotivator). There are two identical seals side by side which sit against the shaft befor the bearing. These are to keep the oil in the gear box and I assume keep the dirt out. Question, what way should the seals sit? The flat edge on the seals should be facing which way. Should they both be the same? I"m not even really sure why there are two seals other than maybe one for oil and one for dirt? If this is the case then the sealing edge should face the oil and the other sealing edge should face the tines - dirt? Thing is they were installed by the manufacturer completly opposite - but maybe there is a reason Any advice appreciated? Thanks, Grant
