ok im confused, im working on a yanmar mini excavater, the starter is bad, when the key is turned the starter sounds like its free spinning, but doesn't engauge the bendix, the guy who piled this thing in my front yard, held the key in the start position and let the starter run, finaly with some light grinding, it rolled the engine over and started, i pulled the starter off this morning[ what a pain in the A!] now with it on the bench, when i put a set of jumper cables to it i get nothing at all, then when i touch the little terminal where the switch wire goes which gives the bendix the signal to move, the bendix works fine, cant make the motor itself spin on the bench, the starter does feel well, loose and wrong, like something is wrong inside the motor itself, anybody played with one of these starters? i did order a new one, 350.00 and its in california, but id like to make sure thats the problem for my own piece of mind, the flywheel does have some minimal wear on it, but it will still work fine, not at all what i expeceted to see on it,
