I hate to burst your bubble on OEM filters, but OEM filters are typically made by one of the brand name 'aftermarket' mfgs, just like all of the other filters. For instance years ago CAT filters were made by Donaldson. In recent years they switched suppliers and now their filters are made by, I believe, Baldwin. Too, I have talked to several guys over the years that have done maintenance in some of the filter plants. Based on what they saw, most are usually making filters under several different brand names, with the only difference being the color they are painted and the markings/numbering. Many times over the years I have personally cut filters of just about every major brand open to check on the condition of the engine, transmission, etc being filtered, and have yet to see any visible difference between the guts of most of them. If there is a difference it's usually nothing more than the surface ares of the filter media, or in some cases one might have a different micron rating than the other. In the later case that should be noted in the spec books and added into the thought process when thinking about changing from one to the other anyway. That, in and of itself, means nothing about the quality of the filter.
Personally I have run NAPA filters on everything I own since I was old enough to have something with an engine on it. Too I also use NAPA filters anytime I service a customers machine. I've never had a problem out of any of my own stuff, and have customers running their machines all day, every day, without a hickup.
