: I had this message on before the crash.
: I have a 1945 M Farmall. I tore it apart to fix it up. I've got it all back together again and it runs fine, but I have electrical problems.
: When I shut the ignition switch off, it continues to run.
: When I got the tractor it had a 12 volt coil & battery, but everything else was still 6 volt. The tractor was also negatively grounded.
: Is this tractor supposed to be + or - ground?
: Which side of the coil should be hooked to the distributer?
: On this model the VR is mounted directly to the generator. There is a terminal on the VR labeled Bat. Is this wire supposed to go to the battery via the ammeter? Or should it run to the ign switch?
: Should the coil wire run to the ign switch?
: I could go on and on, but I won't. If anyone can help me, I can send you an email with an ascii art wiring diagram.
: Thanks

Randall, if the generator is still 6 volts, you definitely want to have a positive ground on the battery. If you were getting a positive charge before you tore it down, I bet the gen. is also 12 volt.

On the ignition switch, see if you can take it apart. If it is the original IH, you probably cannot. If it is an aftermarket and you can open it up, you probably have some corrosion inside and the contacts are sticking. You may have to pick up another used or new switch. Good luck!!!

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
