If your tractor runs fine, then there is probably nothing wrong with the float level, just that your needle valve & seat have a small imperfection, allowing gas past when it shouldn't. I would not recommend a carb overhaul for this symptom alone, because one speck of dirt can cause the whole problem the next day after the fix. just get in the habit of turning the gas off when done. For oil, I would recommend a high quality 15w40 oil for year -round use, and yes I will catch hell from some folks who prefer a straight grade, but I won't budge, after all, it's my opinion, isn't it?? : I'm new to tractors and made the mistake of leaving : my fuel petcock open at the sediment bulb, directly : under the gas tank. Well when i checked my oil, guess : what? Yep, gasoline in the oil. Now I have a few questions. : 1: does this mean i have a bad float level, the tractor ('48 TE-20 Ferguson) : runs great. Or is just gasoline seeping through. : 2: I know I need to change the oil, what I havn't seen in my I&T manual is : what type/weight should i use? for both winter and summer. : 3: I actually started the engine for only a minute before i checked, did i do : major damage? : Thanks for the help.
