OK, so I'm a moron....HELP please!

I'm new to tractors and made the mistake of leaving
my fuel petcock open at the sediment bulb, directly
under the gas tank. Well when i checked my oil, guess
what? Yep, gasoline in the oil. Now I have a few questions.
1: does this mean i have a bad float level, the tractor ('48 TE-20 Ferguson)
runs great. Or is just gasoline seeping through.
2: I know I need to change the oil, what I havn't seen in my I&T manual is
what type/weight should i use? for both winter and summer.
3: I actually started the engine for only a minute before i checked, did i do
major damage?
