Concerning the question, "Was it worth it?" Some years ago a friend at work and myself were discussing our gardens, especially our tomatoes. A co-worker overheard and asked, "Why go to all that trouble, when you can buy them at the marked just as cheap?" I answered, "Well, if there is a bad season, there may not be any at the market, and"---My friend finished it for me, "There just ain't nothin' like a home grown tomato!" And as someone mentioned already, Commercially canned tomatoes are nothing like home grown and canned.
