contrary to some comments below it would appear that the CBS news article was not throughly read. Crews were not turned away, but an Alabama power company did make a decision to withdraw crews after need had slowed and the issue of being under the jurisdiction of the local union was not to their liking. Maybe they feared that the non-union southern crews would come in contact with union folks making safety and work decisions by themselves, without constant supervision. Maybe it was the fear of the professionalism of the union workers, ..who knows.. we live in different cultures in these united states. Southern culture is steeped in "taking orders from the man"... northern culture is "stay out of the way, I'll do it myself"... a much flatter less hierarchal social model. I watched union crews repair high tension wires and replace poles after last year's flood. I watched for 4 hours..not a harsh word was heard..in fact little verbal communication was evident... I watched in amazement as they seemingly went about their business in a symphony of sorts everyone doing what they were trained and qualified for...in the north a union responsibility. This anti-union attitude has got to sttop..it's killing the middle class.
