: I just acquired a 1948 cub. The carb has been replaced with a Zenith carb. It idles great but when you put a little load on it -it starts to miss and will eventually even out some. Mag seems ok . I wonder if it could have the wrong main jet since there is no hi speed adjustmet on this carb. Any thoughts on this would be welcome : Tom Link Tom, I also have a 48 that does the same thing. I still have the original IH carb. I talked to a service guy at IH had he told me the old carbs will warp with age and leak air making them run lean. If I pull out the choke about half way it runs OK. He recomended a new Zenith carb at $180.00 ouch. Mine has a new coil in the mag, new cap rotor, wires and plugs, and is timed right on the money. My spark is HOTTT. Please let me know what you find out. I don't want to invest in a new carb an find out I have the same problem. joebrown@namfg.com
