Hydraulics

I have two tractors, a 1951 8N and a 1970 Ford 2000. The hydraulics on the 2000 seem to work all at once, while the 8N is more gradual. Is this normal for each of these tractors? Or is there something wrong with one or the other? When I lift the hydraulic handle on the 2000, the arms do not move until I am almost at the top, and then the arms lift completely up. Same goes when going down, all I have to do is move the handle about an inch down, and the arms go down. The rest of the travel of the lever down does not seem to do anything. The 8N arms will move up and down with the lever, and I can set the height of the arms by leaving the lever in a certain position. Doug. Doug.
