Sorry, this will be long. You guys are the smarties around here, though.
The first day of harvest one of the trucks broke down. I am stumped. The truck is an 88 Ford L8000 if it matters.
I was having troubles getting it started and idling back in the spring. Mechanic said the injector pump was about shot but we could milk it along by putting in a booster pump and setting it at a couple pounds pressure. Did that. It started like a dream for a couple of days so I though that was it.
Put the first load of wheat on it and took out for town. When you get it up to 25 MPH it falls out. There is no response from the foot feed at all. Reminds me of a drive by wire that has gone bad. This is all mechanical though.
If you stop it won't hardly idle - just lopes. Foot feed doesn't do anything and you can't hardly keep it going. Then, like a light switch all of the sudden it has full power and runs fine. It just won't go above 25. It isn't speed sensitive, though, because it did it going up the lane also.
Mechanic says pump. Since it isn't electrical I just can't image it could go in and out. He started by replacing all of the fuel lines and the manual prime pump. I'm beginning to think he's grasping at straws. He's also wanting to gouge on the pump work because he doesn't want it. I only used him on this because he was close. Done with him. I will have to get a day pass to take it to the good guy as he is over the state line so I thought I would try this.
Also, today I pulled it in the shed and after I shut it off I could hear fuel running back into the take from the return. I'm not sure I remember it ever doing that, but maybe it has.
