John I have owned and ran GM products for years. The chattering lifters is a common issue. I have had many of them clear up if you flush them out.
I had an old GM that told you to flush the engine every other oil change. Here is what it said and how I have flushed them out for years. This includes newer motors that are not even a few years old. I do mean even 2010 and newer.
Take the capacity of the motor oil. Use 80-90% K-1 and 10% new oil. So on a 5 quart system use 1 quart of oil and 4 quarts of K-1. I usually use a new oil filter.
You just start the engine and let it run at idle until it is up to operating temperature. Then drain it out while it is hot. Then change the filter and add new oil.
I have had this work well. I never really had much luck with the Rislone type of product. I would not run it in the engine on a long trip.
The Ford guys talking about the sludged up motors. I have seen Ford V-8 motors have so much sludge under the valve covers that you can not see the valves, rocker arms or shafts. Chrysler's and GM engine rarely ever have this issue. They both allow more oil flow into the top of the cylinder head.

If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
