Hey. I am a chemist, actually a certified CLS (Certified Lubrication Specialist). What is it with you guys and the additives?Synthetics and non synthetics mix. Check out the oils at Walmart, some say a "blend of synthetic" and others say "full synthetic". Synthetic oil is just hydrogen enriched oil. They run it thru a hydro treater at the refineries. This adds extra hydrogen which makes the molecular chains longer giving you more protection. Don't assume you get a good product when you buy a brand name. They are mass produced by jobbers buying spot market oils and additives. I ran the API qa/qc testing program for a number of years and we often found bad oils. If you develop an engine problem like you did, I would suspect the oil or the additive.
