You are right, we had a 50' box trailer dropped to load a bunch of stuff into for storage years back and when he came to move it the driveway was slick with ice/snow, and the tractor got stuck, then the big tandem tow truck got stuck, he should have stayed on the pavement, I hooked onto the tow truck and pulled from the pavement in 4 low, incredible I got him out, and sure I did not pull the whole load, but I will say, it was still darned heavy and a lot of strain, mine is a 4 spd with a NP 203 or 205, cast iron case, it was an auto, but I put a 4spd in it, all those older trucks were certainly built quite strong, especially for a 1/2 ton, I too put heavier springs in the back, a long time ago when I drove it, it would get through snow my '96 F 150 would have trouble with, I have made it thru with a snow plow on with the rocker panels rubbing hard on deep snow, some stories with that old truck for sure LOL !
