I work on the yard equipment for several auto scrappers in my area. It never ceases to amaze me at some of the vehicles I see in their yards. Recently one of the larger outfits got in a nice BMW (if you like BMW's that is) with a nearly new set of high dollar tires on it. The thing ran and drove just fine and other than some minor interior wear issues didn't look all that bad. They had given $500 for the car. That said they often get people simply drive cars in to them and sell them for scrap on the spot. Like I said it never ceases to amaze me that this society has dropped to the point that people basically throw away otherwise perfectly good vehicles instead of spending a few dollars to make the needed repairs to make it perfect.
Top it off with the valuable stuff that people leave in their cars when they do scrap them and, I'll admit, it actually does begin to boggle the imagination a little bit...
