Paul: The Federal mandate that requires ethanol sure as heck DOES have something to do with FREEDOM. Those mandates remove the freedom that a consumer has to buy what they want not what the Government/lobbyist/special interest groups want.
That ties right back to the total discussion. Ethanol would not be in business like it is today without those mandates. Ethanol production is not a new product. We have know how to make it for centuries. Todays technologies does get a better yield per bushel but it still an old product.
The money being funneled into the pet products of today's renewable energy is taking away money being spent on things that may be the next leap ahead in the energy needs.
Here in Iowa the mandates are real obvious. You have ethanol plants all around. Many of which there would be many fewer if it had to stand alone. Now we have Wind mills all over the place that cost 2-3 times as much to generate electric as any other source. These would not be done without mandated percentages of renewable energy.
Then the one renewable that actually works and has a proven track record gets short changed. That would be water. There are very few new hydro-electric plants being built. The environmental regulations are killing them off. We may hurt another snail darter or something. The TVA would not be built in today's tree hugger climate.
Those same mandates tie into all the regulations that the government is forcing on all of us. Especially businesses. Those mandates, EPA regulations, and a whole raft of other stuff is making this country not be competitive.
The government has never been very good at picking winners and losers on anything. Them trying to do so on energy will not turn out any better.

On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
