There was at one time something going on here. It's probably the only footage of those times in this nearby city. There were obviously troop trains through here, and there was a famous house of ill refute right before that tunnel on the east side, that many across the U.S. knew of or about.
Its hard to imagine driving the streets today. I worked in a yard that was part of the B&M yard, the round house still stands today, intact and in good repair. Lumber yard where I worked had a siding, but was long gone before I was their, I actually had to go across the river to the D&H Colonie yard to receive rail cars of lumber, unload, reload onto the tractor trailer, haul to the yard, unload, and repeat.
There is still rail service to south troy, I lived there a long time ago, but in the middle of the city, and the line going north was taken out of service, all the bridges removed eventually.
I always thought it was great that you could have hopped onto a train in troy and go to NYC, now you have to drive to the amtrak station south of here.
Also thought it was interesting to see all the functions of the rail system through here, people actually operating it etc., the old central station was something to appreciate, there was scandal with all of it, local politicians takine proceeds from the sale of the valuable architectural items removed. I always thought it was a shame that a transportation hub like that was removed from the center of the city.
