I am looking to put a bit of life back into a 460 Farmall Diesel I bought today. It runs great but smokes and has quite a bit of blow by out the blow by tube. Seems to make decent power, but a trail of blue smoke follows you wherever you go. I haven't worked it at all yet to gauge oil consumption, but I think the blue smoke gives away the fact that its an oil burner. I have put re ring kits in many gas engines and had decent results, can the same be done with a diesel? This will be the first diesel engine that I will have torn into.
Also, I noticed this tractor smokes a light grey to white when accelerating or revving it up. I have another healthier 460D that smokes purely black when revved. What does the white smoke mean? The radiator is full and no water in the oil, I don't think its burning water at all. is there anything else that could cause the light grey/whitish smoke?
This tractor sat on a dealers lot for over a year, could that have something to do with either issue??
