: : I'm in the home stretch of rebuilding a 1938 F14. By the time I get done, change from $5000 won't buy me lunch at Mickey-D's...A major wad of that is in the engine, what with machine work, new cylinder head, new manifold, rebuilt mag and rebuilt carb. My question is this...AM I CRAZY? I know I'll never get anything like that back out of it in the form of cash (I suspect I'd do well to sell it for half of that, if it came right down to it). Is this amount of money way out of line for rebuilding a tractor? Notice I didn't say "restoring"...the correct tires, rims, wheels and some real body work would easily add another $2000 to that. I don't regret having done it, I had (am having) a lot of fun, and I expect to enjoy putting around on the old girl for several years, but it surely is a shock to realize how much money I've put into it. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has similar thoughts. : This a tractor we are talking about here isn't it ? Not the wife ? The old girl comment threw me. I onced passed up a "almost mint" F-20 with all sorts of accessories and new tires for $350 about 25 years ago. Today another zero on there probably wouldn't buy one like it. I figure the way to beat this game is to just keep living. : As to the $5000 I have known guys who spent more than that per year on drugs destroying not only themselves but their families as well. : Sort of makes a $5000 F-14 look like a real bargin doesn't it ? :-) AMAN to that. The way I see ANTIQUE's is, if you can use is without destorying the item you will get your money back and have the pleasure. The way I justify the hobby is pick some other sport like golf and put the green fee's to work in the F-14 and also your wife or girl friend will have a better idea who is keeping you company. Have the sun shine on you and a tornado, Huuricane, forrest fire or flood ever see your EXCELLANT investment
